Welcome to the AI4E Lab!

Our research lab operates at the intersection of Earth sciences, AI, and applied mathematics, focusing on the following four “E” themes:

  • Earthquakes and Geological Hazards
  • Earth’s Interior and Imaging
  • Energy Transition and Geological Resources
  • Environmental Sustainability

Our lab is affiliated with The Ohio State University, where I serve as an Assistant Professor in the School of Earth Sciences. We are also part of the BuckAI Observatory.

I am looking for postdoc scholars, graduate students, visiting scholars, and undergraduate researchers to join my group. Contact me for potential projects! (see openings)

I was fortunate to work with Prof. Laurent Demanet in the Earth Resources Laboratory and received my Ph.D. in Geophysics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2022. Before joining OSU, I served as an Assistant Professor at The University of Texas at El Paso, and prior to that, completed my postdoctoral training at the California Institute of Technology. I also gained industry experience through internships at TotalEnergies and ExxonMobil during my doctoral studies. Previously, I obtained both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Geophysics at Jilin University.

My research expertise spans geophysics, seismology, AI, and machine learning, with a focus on developing machine-learning algorithms to tackle complex geoscience challenges through intelligent, physics-informed, and data-driven approaches. My work aims to enhance our understanding of the Earth’s interior, addressing energy and environmental challenges from a geophysical perspective and mitigating risks associated with natural and induced earthquakes. By integrating machine learning and big data, I explore subsurface structures and dynamics, including earthquake rupture, fluid migration, natural resource reservoirs, and geothermal systems.
