The AI4E Lab leverages artificial intelligence to advance four interconnected “E” themes:
Our lab is based in the School of Earth Sciences at The Ohio State University.
Our research lies at the intersection of geophysics, seismology, artificial intelligence, and applied mathematics. We develop advanced machine-learning methods that integrate data-driven approaches with physical principles to address fundamental challenges in Earth sciences. Our work aims to advance our understanding of Earth’s interior and dynamic processes, mitigate hazards associated with natural and induced earthquakes, and address challenges related to energy resources and environmental sustainability. By leveraging AI and large-scale geophysical observations, we investigate subsurface structures and processes, including earthquake rupture, fault deformation, fluid migration, natural resource reservoirs, and geothermal systems.
Our research is supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), with projects advancing AI-enabled geophysical imaging, seismic monitoring, and subsurface characterization.
